Official Lollipop Update for Micromax Unite 2 will soon be available via OTA(Over the air)

A few days ago, we showed how to flash the official Android Lollipop 5.0 update on your Micromax Unite 2. However, it was a leaked version of the firmware and there was acknowledgement regarding the same from Micromax. Well, good news is Micromax on Thursday officially declared the roll out of Android Lollipop for Unite 2 (both 4GB and 8GB versions). According to sources, Unite 2 users will start getting the update from Tuesday onwards on their phones. So, make sure to check your phone for a Software Upgrade notification or you could simply check for the update manually by going to Settings - About Phone - Software Update - Check for update.

We've flashed this firmware earlier and found it quite interesting, here are some pros and cons of the firmware which we'd like to share with you guys-

PROS

- Almost stock Lollipop experience

- A slight yet noticeable improvement in performance
- Being an official firmware, it has few or no bugs
- USB OTG(USB On-The-Go) has been fixed

CONS

- Full of bloatware!
- A slight deterioration in battery life
- No transparent status bar

Micromax Unite 2 has been a strong competitor of various smartphones in its price category for quite sometime now with it's stunning specifications consisting of 1.3Ghz quad core MT6582 processor, 1GB of RAM, a 5-megapixel rear and a 2-megapixel front camera, and lots of other interesting features including the support of 21 Indian languages(such as, Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, etc.).
Now that the Unite 2 has runs on Lollipop, it'd be an even more strong contender, as even branded phones in its price segment such as the Motorola Moto E, which is probably the only Motorola smartphone that hasn't received the Lollipop Update. However, just in case you want to buy a smartphone in the 6,000-8,000 rupees price segment that runs on Lollipop and you don't find the Unite 2 appealing enough, then you can consider the following smartphones:

  • Android One™ Smartphones - These smartphones were made by Google's own initiative under which it entered into an agreement with Karbonn, Micromax and Spice. Right now, under this category you can buy thee smartphones, Karbonn Sparkle V, Micromax Canvas A1 and Spice Dream Uno, all of these phones have the same specifications. These devices have been already updated Lollipop by Google itself, so it is expected that it'll receive more updates in future as well.
  • Xolo One - Going by its name you might think that this is an Android One™ device as well. however, the truth is that it is NOT an official and Android One™ device, which means it will not receive updates directly from Google's servers. Quite ironically, this device received the Lollipop update even before the official Android One™ phones.

There are a few more Lollipop based smartphone in more or less the same price category which you might want to consider before buying one.

JUST IN CASE: If you are not patient enough for the official update to hit your phone, and you're not afraid of taking risks, visit this link to find out as to how you can flash the Lollipop firmware for yourself.
